Susan Morland was born in Liverpool, and spent her early childhood years in the Lake District where her family were evacuated during World War 2. She trained as a classical musician, then mainly self-taught as an artist she began painting in New York in the 1960s.

Susan Morland’s first one person exhibition was at the Woodstock Gallery in London in 1978 and since then she has exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the UK and internationally. During the 1990s she was an executive committee member of the Women’s Art Library and organised the touring group exhibition ‘With your Own Face On’, which showed at museums and galleries including Nottingham Castle Museum and Waterman’s Art Centre London.

In the mid 1990s the Women’s Art Library organised a first-ever exchange exhibition with the United Arab Emirates, curated by Siumee Keelan, in which Susan Morland was invited to the UAE to present a series of artists talks and workshops. Susan Morland has also participated in other exhibition projects, including North Current which linked UK, Germany and Sweden.

Seeing herself as part of a wider community of women, artists and writers, Susan Morland’s excursions across the boundaries of art practice led to her touring exhibition ‘Transformation’, which combined her work as an artist with the work of women poets. At these exhibitions there were poetry readings, music and performances, leading to the joint commissioning of an ‘exhibition on video’ with Media Arts incorporating spoken poetry and a filmed art exhibition.

Susan Morland’s work is represented in public collections including Women’s Art at New Hall Cambridge University, Sharjah Arts Museum UAE, Hereford Museum and Curwen Studio Archives.
